Grand Parents Day

It was so much fun to go to Centerville Elementary for our granddaughter's grand parents day. Janika is six years old and in kindergarten. What a great show these kids put on for the grand parents. It was all about ginger bread men and the teacher had let them help with the story. Janika sang so well and did her part so well.My favorite job is being a grand mother.I have been a grandma for 31 years and loved all of it.I hope all of you have a Merry Christmas!!

Our son John who lives in Huntington, Utah came to University Hospital Orthopaedic Center to have surgery this Monday. He has been having real bad problems with his feet and the Doctor down there sent him up here to a Doctor Timothy Beals who specializing in reconstructive foot surgery.John has a genetic disease called Charcot-Marie-Tooth it really is a bad thing but with this operation he will be much better and back to work on the rail road in 4 months. The surgery took 6 hours!!His Doctor is one of a very few who can do this and we are so glad that he could. Richard took him home yesterday and he made the trip home okay. We wish him a quick recovery.I am putting a picture of his Doctor on he is a very nice one.

History

The last time we went down to Huntington Utah to see our son John he took me to see the old Burgess Grist Mill.William Burgess Jr owned and operated this mill when he lived there during the 1800's. He is Richard's gg grandfather. He later went to Pine Valley Utah and helped build up that area. The town of Huntington is trying to raise the money to restore the old Grist Mill I sure hope they can. Our Mission is doing well we miss our friends in our neighborhood and our ward.We hope they don't forget us.

Conference Was Awesome!!

I always look forward to hearing my friend Jeff Holland speak and this Conference I think he gave one of the best talks I have ever heard. Now that I am serving as a full time missionary I wanted to really listen to Conference and I wasn't disappointed I thought it was so good. All of the missionary's were talking about Jeff's talk at our District meeting Tuesday morning. When they found out I grew up with him and we are the exact same age they had a lot of questions about him. I shared some special things about him that I remembered. We are having a successful mission so far and are having lots of experiences that have really changed us.Thanks for every one who supports us with kind words and notes and especially for the prayers.I love that the Church let Jeff take that book that was so special, and show it at Conference I did not think they would let that out of their vault.

"There she is....Miss America.

We had to go up to Park City and while there I wanted to go to the Kimball Art Center and see the Evening Gowns of Miss America 1953 that was a long time ago and it was great to see all of those old gowns. She is now a part time resident of Park City.On display were 12 gowns and also her crown worn during her reign as Miss America. Also her Mother had taken all the ribbons from the flowers she received at her pagents and made a beautiful silk quilt from them.I love old things and a little history is good!

Wonderful Experience at the Missionary Training Center

A amazing experience at the MTC! We learned so much while we were there. I can't remember ever studying so much, we were in classes for 8 hours a day up at 6 am to bed at 10pm and every night a couple of hours reading assignment for the next day.Did we miss TV or home we never had a minute we were so busy.2,500 young missionaries and 77 of us Seniors were going all over the world to teach the gospel to others. In our group of 77 only a few were serving in the US.The rest were going all over the world.Germany,England,Africa,Ukraine Canada,Hungary,Uganda, Greece,Spain, Czech Republic Latvia Baltic,WOW!! and we are Seniors. The couple we are with in the picture Elder and Sister Snowden are going on a Military Relations Mission to Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas, where Richard went to Tech school. They are the most wonderful couple and became dear friends. We hope to visit them! One of the couples Elder and Sister Chambers are going to China for him to serve as the Branch President. He saw my family history chart and saw my name was Dahl and asked if I knew Ted Dahl I said he is my cousin. He had served as a counselor to Ted while living in Peoria, Illinois. As you can see we were with some of the best people in the church. Our teachers were great,my favorite teacher told me the last day I was his favorite student. That made my day.We taught 45 minute lessons to volunteers who were non members. I was a little scared but it went real well.Elder Kemple said he was impressed by my teaching and he did a great job we make a good team.WATCH out Sandy North and South Stakes here we come all fired up from our week at the MTC. We will never be the same again.

Over the Mountain

We have been trying to do things with our friends the Lance's while Mike is off track. He starts teaching again next week so today we went up Butterfield Canyon and took a dirt rough road up to Kennecott.I am afraid of high places I about had a break down when we were going to the top. Once you are up there you can't believe the beautiful views of the whole valley and the back side of the mine. Never take a car up there you need a 4x4 and even then it is a rough ride. If you just do over the mountain down into Tooele that is a nice ride. After we got into Tooele we stopped and had lunch at Apollo Burger then went to Erda to see my brother Dr Dahl but he wasn't home.We sure had a fun trip.
